This image of an Amhara boy and his horse in barren fields that should be full of wheat and teff was taken in Wollo 600kms north of Ethiopia's capital Addis in 2008 when the entire region suffered major drought as both the years' rains failed. Ethiopia continues to face the same issues of failed rains and are currently suffering the worst drought in 30 years exacerbated by the El Ni?o phenomenon. A recent climate change study in the Horn of Africa finds that the land is drying out at an unusually fast pace as a result of soaring greenhouse gas emissions. Associate professor at the University of Arizona and lead author of the study Jessica Tierney said in a statement in the IBTimes, "Given the scale of threats in Africa and across the world, studying the hyper-local impacts of climate change will be critical to helping communities adapt and prepare".
